Shop Talk...My blog

The Woodworking Show - Sandy, Utah

So this last Saturday I got to go to my first woodworking show at the South Towne Expo Center in Sandy, Utah.  I got to take three classes from Jim Heavey from WOOD Magazine.  That was pretty cool.  First he gave a class on jig ideas for the tablesaw and router, the second class was usage of the jigs and the last class was tips on finishing.  There were some pretty cool jigs that he demonstrated that I hadn’t thought of and that actually will come in handy with some projects I’ve got coming up over the next few months.

New Computer Desk

For the last several months my computer has been setup on my kitchen counter.  We’ve been remodelling so a lot of things are far from ideal.  I was getting some cleaning done out in the shop the other day and I discovered I still had a fair amount of knotty alder left over from the dining room table project so I decided to use it to make a new computer desk.  This way I get some use out of that wood, I get a better place to put the computer and my wife will be happy that the mess that follows the computer will no longer be in the kitchen.

Filming First Video

So I decided to get my first video filmed for the site.  This one is an intro to go with the About Sawdust Is Life page.  It’ll pretty much be an intro to me and my shop and what I hope to accomplish with this site.  It’s going to be a little messy for this first episode.  I’m in the middle of cleaning up, reorganizing and remodeling.

About Me Video

Finally got my Intro video done and posted for the about me page.  Nothing fancy and not that great, but it lets you know the purpose behind this site and gives you a gander at my ugly mug.  More video coming soon.

I’m building a set of doors for my lawnmower shed to replace the exisiting doors.  I may do a little video about that.

New Delta Unisaw!

So I was checking my email today and I noticed something from Delta that caught my eye.  It looks like were finally going to get some real details on their new US built Unisaw within the next day or so.  Makes me wish I was at IWF.

Check it out: http://www.deltaportercable.com/unisaw/
